Wilfrid Laurier University Special Constable Service

Hong Kong Police visit WLU Special Constable Service on Tuesday September 8, 2009

Sep 9/09

Staff Sergeant Norman Yu of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Training Branch made arrangements with our service for a campus visit by the Hong Kong Police. The police were very interested in our partnership with the Waterloo Regional Police, Waterloo Community, our emergency - lock-down procedure and our mandate for policing on our 4 campuses.

The visitors were Detective Senior Inspector Simon TSUI Siu-man of the Narcotics Bureau and Senior Inspector Teresa CHAN Sin-nga of the Police Tactical Unit of the Hong Kong Police. They asked several questions about our drug policy on campus, our emergency planning and response. The partnership between the police and the university was of special interest to them. They were quite impressed with our Special Constable Service, the quality of our equipment and the communication centre.

After a tour of the campus some photos and gifts were exchanged. I would like to thank Deb Da Costa and Roly Webster for providing the Laurier t-shirts and mugs.

They came back to campus at 9:30 pm to view our orientation party on campus and how our service worked in partnership with the police to keep everyone safe.
