BRANTFORD – The Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union will be recognized for its $3.6 million contribution to the Laurier Brantford-YMCA Athletics and Recreation Centre on Friday, Feb. 7 at Laurier’s Brantford campus. Formal remarks will begin at noon at the SC Johnson building, 38 Market Street, followed by a celebration for undergraduate students, including skating at 1 p.m. in Harmony Square.

“The contribution by our undergraduate students speaks to the positive impact that this facility will have on the student experience,” said Brian Rosborough, senior executive officer, Brantford campus. “On behalf of both Laurier and the YMCA, thank you to our Students’ Union and to all of our students for their support.”

The building is targeted for the south side of Colborne Street, opposite Harmony Square, and will include an aquatic centre for teaching, fitness, therapy and leisure; multi-purpose spaces for fitness classes and social, educational and cultural programming; teaching spaces for community education; cardio, strength and weight areas for individual fitness and community-based health-care programs; and large gymnasiums and multi-purpose studios.

The Laurier Brantford-YMCA Recreation and Athletics Centre is an innovative partnership between Laurier and the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford to provide an inclusive, world-class facility that will serve residents of Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations, and the postsecondary institutions in the community.
