It’s time to celebrate National Philanthropy Day!

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Nov 14/13

A flock of paper cranes has landed at Laurier, bringing a message of philanthropy to students across campuses.

In anticipation of National Philanthropy Day, celebrated Friday, Nov. 15, the Laurier Student Alumni Association (SAA) wrote more than 100 notes recognizing donors for their many contributions to the university. They then folded the messages into cranes and distributed them across Laurier’s Waterloo and Brantford campuses.

All week, students have been finding the cranes, unfolding the paper, reading the notes and visiting the SAA blog to learn more about philanthropy at Laurier.

The cranes are just one part of Laurier’s celebration of National Philanthropy Day. The SAA is also inviting students to share their own personal messages of gratitude with donors today, Thursday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the concourse on Laurier’s Waterloo campus. Students can write their own thank-you note and receive a free Polaroid photo. Students on Laurier's Brantford campus can visit the Research and Academic Centre West lobby Friday, Nov. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for free hot chocolate and photos.

Staff and faculty are among the generous donors Laurier is acknowledging this National Philanthropy Day. Watch a video to see how Laurier students are inspired by the philanthropic commitment of Laurier’s donors.

“We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to our students, alumni, friends, staff, faculty and senior leaders for their continued personal support of our university,” says Cameron Denham, president of the SAA. “Your generosity inspires me as a leader of tomorrow. Your gifts are essential to funding support programs for students, enhancing our resources and facilities, and improving the overall Laurier student experience.”
