BRANTFORD – Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus will host the 2013 Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) golf championships at the Paris Grand Golf Course beginning Monday, September 30.
The three-day tournament will see golfers from 14 member institutions compete in a stroke play championship. The golfers will play a practice round on Sunday, September 29 with the tournament set to begin Monday morning.

“These championships are a premier golf tournament in Ontario, and the Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation is thrilled to be the host institution,” said Greg Stewart, manager, Athletics and Recreation. “We have an opportunity to engage our student body and showcase Laurier, as well as Brantford and Brant County.”

Spectators are welcome to attend at no charge, and will have the opportunity to see some of the best amateur golfers in the province compete. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. daily, with players beginning on holes 1 and 10.

In addition to the three days of competition, the golfers are invited to attend a banquet Tuesday, October 1.

The OCAA governs intercollegiate sport and promotes physical activity in its member institutions through quality athletic and campus recreation programs. The association seeks to create an environment that promotes academic success, provides a forum for personal development, complements the educational experience, and enhances student life.

The OCAA oversees 15 varsity sports, of which nine provincial champions go on to compete in national championships, nine league sports and six tournaments. In addition, OCAA member institutions compete in over 30 extramural club sport events and organize over 500 intramural on-campus sport events.

Laurier’s Brantford campus joined the OCAA in 2010, and will begin competing in men's and women's soccer, followed by men's and women's basketball.
