Douglas Jackson McCready is a recently retired Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics, at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, having been employed by that institution and its predecessor, Waterloo Lutheran University since 1969. He also has held part- time professorships/ mentorships with Walden University (Minneapolis, MN), Greenleaf University (Maryland Heights, MO), and Unexus University (Fredericton, NB), mostly supervising doctoral candidates or MBA students. He graduated from the University of Windsor (BA), University of London, London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc [Econ]), and the University of Alberta (PhD). His dissertation was entitled Federal Education Grants in New Brunswick. His interest in fiscal federalism and his publications, including a textbook, in public finance have been of practical value to Dr. McCready's teaching in government spending, taxation, health economics, and education economics. He has published articles in many areas, including migration, demographics, and program evaluation. Dr. McCready has a special interest in social programs and financial administration. Dr. McCready's current research involves providing post-secondary education through the government, not-for-profit, and for-profit sectors as well as demographic change and health care costs. Dr. McCready has been on most University Committees at Wilfrid Laurier University at one time or other. He has been Director of Instructional Development and President of the Faculty Association as well as being a member of Senate and it's numerous committees over the years. Dr. McCready is on the editorial board of several academic journals. He is also book review editor of the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation. He has also contributed weekly and monthly columns to newspapers and business magazines in the southwestern Ontario region. He has served on numerous community boards including the District Health Council and St. John Ambulance. Dr. McCready has also consulted for several government departments and intergovernmental boards and completed one of the background studies for the last Economic Council of Canada Annual Report. Dr. McCready is listed in Who's Who in Canada.
