I was born in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada and lived there until 1988. I attended the University of Prince Edward Island from 1984 to 1988, graduating in 1988 with a B.Sc. in Mathematics. I attended the University of Waterloo , Waterloo, Ontario, Canada from 1988 to 1994, obtaining a M.Math in Pure Mathematics in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Combinatorics and Optimization in 1994. In 1994 I moved to beautiful Christchurch, New Zealand, where I did a postdoc at the University of Canterbury until 1996. In 1996 I moved to Southampton, UK where I did another postdoc at the University of Southampton for two years and then worked as a lecturer and senior lecturer in the Faculty of Systems Engineering (now the Faculty of Technology ) at Southampton Institute  (now Southampton Solent University). In 2000 I returned to Waterloo, this time as an assistant professor in the Dept. of Physics and Computer Science at Wilfrid Laurier University. I was promoted to associate professor in 2004 and to full professor in 2012.
