Ph.D. (Parasitology, Ecotoxicology) - McGill University - 2007
D.V.M - University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine -Iasi, Romania - 1989
I completed my Ph.D (Institute of Parasitology, McGill University) in 2007, with an ecotoxicological project assessing the effects of waterborne zinc (as a pollutant) on host-parasite interactions. As the experimental model, I used guppies and their ectoparasitic worm, Gyrodactylus. My first degree as a DVM was granted in 1989 by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in the city of Iasi, Romania. I then spent 10 years advancing from Teaching Assistant to Assistant Professor in the Department of Parasitology, where I was engaged in a variety of academic, research and administrative responsibilities. To date, my research expertise includes ecotoxicology, parasitology, veterinary medicine, and histology. My postdoctoral ecotoxicological project will assess the impact of natural organic matter (NOM) characteristics on acute toxicity of heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Cd) in aquatic environments, towards improving the Biotic Ligand Model (BLM).
The research is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, The Copper Development Association, the Metals in the Human Environment Research Network and Wilfrid Laurier University.
