Trevor Wagler is Director of Renaissance School of the Arts (“Waterloo Region’s Finest Arts Education Centre”) and Vice President of Flamingo Soup Music Publishing and Productions, Inc., as well as a freelance musician, composer, arranger, conductor and writer.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition, a diploma in Performance, and a diploma in Chamber Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Masters of Music degree in horn performance from Western University. He has performed with many Canadian orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, Tafelmusik, Orchestra London, the Hamilton Philharmonic, the Nota Bene Period Orchestra, and the Windsor Symphony.

Trevor currently teaches Musicianship Skills and French Horn Techniques at Wilfrid Laurier University (Faculty of Music), where he has also taught Orchestration and French Horn studio lessons. He is the conductor of the K-W Symphony’s Youth Concert Band (part of the KWS Youth Orchestra Programme), conductor of the historic Waterloo Concert Band, as well as the organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Philipsburg. He performs several Woodwind Quintet concerts annually at area elementary schools, in an entertaining program that features him playing a Mozart horn concerto on a garden hose.

As a performer, Trevor has a keen interest in chamber music and early music performance practice, having studied natural horn under both Derek Conrod (Tafelmusik) and Richard Seraphinoff (Indiana University, Bloomington). Other notable influences include mentor Nina Brickman (former second horn of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Canadian Chamber Ensemble), and Trevor’s first horn instructor, Carol Dennison (former principal horn of the KWS, CCE and Canadian Opera Company orchestra).

In addition to regularly performing on horn and piano (and organ), Mr. Wagler is a skilled composer and arranger. His work has been performed throughout Canada and the world by dozens of orchestras and ensembles, and has been broadcast nationwide on CBC radio. While a self-taught arranger, he studied composition with Canadian composers Peter Hatch, Glenn Buhr and Melissa Hui.

Trevor is a member of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada, the International Horn Society, the Historic Brass Society and the National Geographic Society, and is currently the brass advisor to the Kitchener-Waterloo Kiwanis Music Festival.

Trevor resides in Waterloo, Ontario with his lovely wife, flutist Wendy Wagler, and three fabulous children.
