Academic Background
PhD, Geography and Environmental Management, University of Waterloo, 2008.
MES, Geography, University of Waterloo, 2002.
BES, Wilfrid Laurier University, 2000.
Over the past decade, themes within my research program have broadly focused on environmental policy alternatives and how organizations make policy choices, the barriers to climate change adaptation within resource management organizations, and how the development of new collaborative structures can help enhance science-based decision-making.

My approach to research is interdisciplinary, participatory and policy-oriented. Instead of focusing merely on knowledge transfer, I adopt a "co-production" of knowledge approach through collaborative learning between "experts" and "users". I strive to achieve this through knowledge interfacing and sharing; or, a "process of relating".

My research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the US Geological Survey, the US National Park Service, Natural Resources Canada, the Canada-US Fulbright Program, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Parks, and the Government of Alberta.

I enjoy hockey, camping, canoeing, snowshoeing, golf and road cycling. I also am an avid hiker and am currently attempting to become an ADK 46-R. As of August 2013, I have climbed 15 of the 46 major peaks above 4,000 feet in Adirondack State Park. I also enjoy listening to music and attending concerts. U2, Ryan Adams (not the "Summer of 69" guy), Vampire Weekend and The National are among my favourites.
