Academic Background

BSc, Economics (Universidad del Pacífico, Perú), Honours BA, Psychology (Trent University), MSW (University of Toronto), PhD (University of Toronto)

Eliana’s research focuses on the intersections between trauma, violence, and resilience; global/local health disparities and social justice; and social work responses to neo-colonialism and globalization. She is also committed to enhancing the integration of critical epistemologies with quantitative research methods. Her current research program explores local narratives of trauma and resilience in response to gendered experiences of violence. Eliana’s latest research is examining political activism as resilience strategy based on the experiences of Indigenous women in the aftermath of political violence in Peru. Before joining the FSW at WLU she has been a sessional instructor at Ryerson University and the University of Toronto. Eliana’s teaching interests are research methods, social work practice in mental health services, crisis intervention, international social work, and strategies for social change. She teaches in all streams of the MSW program. Eliana’s extensive social work practice has been primarily in the fields of community mental health and violence against women.
