Melissa Ireland is a student affairs professional with a passion for Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being. She has been told that her gifts include being a caring connector, collaborator, mediator, proposal writer and door opener. Serving with pride as the Aboriginal Student Support Coordinator for the Waterloo campus, she was the 2014 recipient of Wilfrid Laurier University's Employee Success Factor Award for "Leadership and Accountability". Additionally, she has been credited with the co-creation of Laurier's Aboriginal Student Centre and its services.
Recently, Melissa's passion projects has been centred on Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and is a participant's of Laurier's Change Team for the Ashoka Changemaker designation. Melissa holds an Honours BA in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing from the University of Waterloo. She loves reading, drumming, gardening and is currently working on a Masters of Social Work part-time. Melissa has Anishinaabe (Ojibway) heritage from Curve Lake First Nation and is Marten Clan.
My role is to provide specialized support and services to Aboriginal students at the Waterloo and Kitchener campuses.
