Rianne Mahon holds the CIGI chair in comparative family and social policy at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the Faculty of Social Work, Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Prior to this, she was Professor, School of Public Policy and Administration and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology as well as Director of the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada. Her earlier work focused on unions and post-Fordist labour markets in Canada and Sweden from a gender and class perspective. Over the last decade, she has produced numerous articles and book chapters on the politics of childcare, seen as part of a broader, gendered, process of redesigning welfare regimes. Her current work focuses on the role of international organizations in disseminating child care/early childhood development policy discourses and the (contested) translation of such travelling ideas in Argentina, Canada and Mexico at the national and subnational scales.
