Diversity & Equity Office
Acting Manager, Diversity & Equity: Dana Lavoie, email@example.com, ext. 4469
The Diversity & Equity Office is responsible to encompass diversity and equity-related services for students, staff and faculty of all Laurier campuses. The initiative of this office is to build communities of learning that will become more aware, engaged and invested in diversity and equity concerns. It will provide members of the Laurier community the opportunity to acquire the tools needed to engage in the collaborative process of creating a more inclusive academic and social environment on campus.
The Association of Black Students (ABS) aims to welcome and inspire all that seek to become more aware and involved with the social injustices and racially based inequalities of the world. As representatives of historically marginalized ethnic communities, the members of ABS encourage people to listen and support one another in the presence of the challenges they may face and empower other students to be agents of change within the Laurier and Kitchener-Waterloo community.
Location: Room 1-C12A Arts Building
The Multi-Faith Resource Team, which includes the university Chaplains, is available to assist students in their efforts to research or discuss ethical and theological issues. Realizing that university is a place which offers opportunity for students to enhance their own religious base and to be challenged by unfamiliar faith stances, the Resource Team is available for support and guidance.
Location: First floor, Macdonald House, Rm. 104
Be You. Be Proud. The WLU Rainbow Centre is dedicated to enhancing the university environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer individuals in the Laurier Community through awareness promotion, education, advocacy and support.
The Rainbow Centre is an inclusive safer space on campus that is available to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are interested in learning about the Queer community. The Rainbow Centre is open to those who are LGBTQ* identified, as well as anyone who is Queer-friendly or an Ally. Members of the Rainbow Centre assist in providing awareness training, programming, and support to fellow peers and to the greater university community.
The Centre for Women & Trans People* (CWT) is a student service that strives to build a community of people and ideas that challenge and examine gender inequalities. We firmly believe that everyone should have equal access to education in a positive learning environment. We hope to provide a space where women and trans people can feel safe and affirmed, in recognition of the gender-specific barriers and inequalities that they often face.
In an effort to instigate change, this women- and trans-positive space offers an extensive collection of academic, community and informational resources, as well as opportunities to actively engage in activism and awareness campaigns. The CWT is also a place to have fun, meet new people, pass the time between classes or unwind at the end of the day.
The Student Diversity Committee is an initiative within the Diversity & Equity Office and is composed of student leaders and staff that represent many different student service groups and cultural and religious campus clubs on campus. The main objective of the Student Diversity Committee is to educate the WLU community with respect to diversity, and to celebrate diversity through training, marketing & event planning.
