Ancient Language Option

The Ancient Language Option is open to all Honours students with second year standing or above who have achieved a minimum GPA of 7.0 (B-) in at least 1.0 credit in ancient languages (Greek, Latin or Semitic). It is intended primarily to offer a solid background in ancient language in preparation for graduate work but may be of interest to other students as well. Some senior courses in Greek and Latin are offered by the University of Waterloo by a special agreement between the two departments. Completion of the option will result in an “Ancient Language Option” designation on student transcripts and degree. Students must complete a minimum of 5.0 credits from one or more of the following including the requirements for their Honours degree:

  • Greek
  • Latin
  • Semitic, i.e.
    NE221 - Biblical Hebrew Grammar
    NE222 - Biblical Hebrew Narrative
    NE231 - Old Babylonian Grammar
    NE232 - Old Babylonian Inscriptions
    NE321 - Readings in Biblical Hebrew
    NE322 - Northwest Semitic Texts and Inscriptions
    NE331 - Standard Babylonian and Assyrian
    NE490 - Special Topics
