Journalism Project
1.0 Credit

This full-credit course runs two terms (fall through winter). Following a detailed work schedule, students in this course have two options. The first is to work in groups to develop and complete a practical, multi-platform project in the area of social media, conventional journalism or public relations. The project includes a substantial applied research component whereby students examine the theories informing their communication goals and measure the projects’ outcomes. The second option is to work independently (or with permission of the instructor, collaboratively) to complete a heavily researched, traditional scholastic work of a theoretical nature. This dissertation involves conducting an extensive literature review in an area of scholarly research, and developing and defending a thesis that engages with that literature. It may also involve original research. Students pursuing both options meet regularly in a seminar environment to discuss current progress and develop strategies for future success.
